Seniors now in a relegation battle
Mayo Senior League
Division 1A
Knockmore 2-9
Ballinrobe 0-4
THE seniors crashed to their fifth defeat in eight Division 1A league matches against county semi-finalists, Knockmore, at Flanagan Park on Sunday.
On a rotten day for football, Ballinrobe never got going up front and were unable to convert a plethora of possession into scores against an uncompromising Knockmore defence.
Ballinrobe also badly missed forwards, Micheal Keane and Mark Walkin, who were both away on holidays.
The winners led at half-time by 0-5 to 0-2 with scores from Donal Vaughan and Ray McGreal (free) the only home contributions to the scoreboard.
Things didn’t get much better in the second half and Knockmore goals from Keith Ruttledge and Colm Donnellan pushed the visitors on to victory.
Late points from Ray McGreal (free) and Alan Murphy proved far too little, far too late.
Ballinrobe still need at least one win from their remaining games to have any chance of avoiding relegation to Division 1B.
They are currently second from bottom of the Division 1A table with two wins and a draw from their eight games played.
Ballinrobe’s next outing is away to Crossmolina on Sunday, October 16.
