Girls U10 Winter Pella League

After our indoor training session last week we begin our U10 Pella league this Thursday 12th October 2017 at 6:00pm in Lakeside. See below for details of the teams and the schedule.  Players should arrive 10 minutes before the kick-off time for their match indicated on the schedule above. Matches will be 12 minutes a side with a half time break. Allowing for delays, players should be available for collection 35 minutes after kick-off time.   Rules Gum shields & runners must be worn. Scoring: 3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw, 1 point for losing by three or less scores. In the event of a tie, final placings will be determined by total goals scored. 5-a-side games if both teams have 5 players. 4-a-side games if one or both teams have only 4 players. If any team has less than 4 players a temporary substitution from another team will be made if possible to facilitate a 4-a-side game. This may not always be possible so please make every effort to attend each week – your team needs you. During the game a hand-passed score counts as one point and a kicked score counts as three points. Ladies Gaelic football rules apply for pick-up, hand-pass, movement with the ball, etc. A player is allowed two solos or a solo and a hop before they must pass or shoot. A player must be in the opposition’s half to score. The ball may hit the side wall without penalty. If an attacking player hits the ball against the end wall, the defending team gains possession and re-starts the game from under their goal. Before the re-start no attacking player is allowed inside the blue semi-circle zone. If a defending player hits the ball off the end wall, the attacking team gains possession at centre court. Teams must have at least one player in each half of the court at all times. If a team fails to do so, the opposing team is awarded a free from the opposition’s blue semi-circle. When a free is called the defending player must step back 5 paces from the free taker. A defender may block a player or attempt to strike the ball from her hands but no tackling allowed – i.e. no grabbing, pushing or striking an opposing player to any degree. A player guilty of persistent fouling or dangerous play will be sin binned for 3 minutes.

KO Nutrition sponsors Ladies U14 Jerseys

Ballinrobe GAA club are delighted to have KO Nutrition as sponsor for their under 14 ladies team. Katherine O Loughlin, of KO Nutrition is embarking on a new venture in which she hopes that she can help many players and their families. KO Nutrition is a nutrition consultancy providing advice for individuals, families and sports professionals. Katherine and the O’Loughlin family, have a long history with the club. Katherine was Club Secretary for many years in the mid 90s and the O’Loughlins have been heavily involved in the club for many years. Most recently, Declan is Bord na nOg Chairman and Katherine & Declan are delighted that both of their children are now playing in the club colours. There has been much research done recently into young girls and team sport and one study has revealed that playing team sports helps women build a strong set of life skills, like better mental well-being, dealing with pressure and self-confidence. But unfortunately, half of them drop out by the beginning of secondary school. KO Nutrition is delighted to be able to help in this small way and hope that all of these great girls stay playing football for many years to come.

Congrats to our U16’s

Our U16 team defeated Hollymount/Carramore in the South B Final this evening in Kilmaine. This is their second final win as they won the County Championship E final last month. Well done to the players and management on completing a fantastic season. U16 County Final tonight @ McHale Park 6.30

By Irene Langan, Club Secretary Our u16 team are playing  Kilmovee in McHale Park this evening at 6.30 in a Mayo Championship Final. We are so pleased with our team for achieving this and we urge you all to travel to Castlebar this evening to support our boys, they deserve a good turn out. We have our Minor team out on Friday night In  Flanagan Park at 7pm. They would also appreciate your support. We have all seen how the 16th man has helped our county team cross the line so many times this year and its the same for our club teams and even more so at underage so please get the word out there and get behind our teams.

U12 Girls Blitz in Tourmakeady

Well done to our U12 girls who took part in the Thomais Ui Eimhrin blitz in Tourmakeady on Sunday 6th August. The girls played Tourmakeady and Breaffy and put on a great display in both games.  Well done to the players and coaches, this group continues to improve all the time. Thanks to the parents for bringing the girls to the blitz and staying to support them. Thanks to Tourmakeady for organising this event and for being great hosts. This was the start of a busy week for these girls with another match this Wednesday in Headford and a U13 match on Friday.

U10 Ladies vs Burrishoole

By Declan O’Loughlin Our ladies U10s played Burrishoole at home in Ballinrobe on the 5th of July, we did not have our usual numbers with a lot of girls on holidays that week. Luckily the girls we had played very well and these bunch of young ladies always do their best. The girls played very well with great determination and skill against a very talented Burrishoole team. Cul Camp this week so there will be no training this Wednesday with a blitz on Saturday in the Neale. Parents will be texted with details during the week.
