Gaelic4Girls is initially an 8 week programme aimed at increasing participation in Ladies Gaelic Football. The programme targets girls aged between 8-12 years who are not currently registered with a Ladies Gaelic Football Club. Gaelic4Girls is focused on fun and participation, allowing girls to get an introduction to Ladies Gaelic Football in a non-competitive environment.  It will be held in Flanagan Park, Ballinrobe on Fridays for 8 weeks from 18:30 – 19:30, commencing on the 15th April 2016. Following the 8 weeks, the girls will be encouraged to register with our Ladies Football club, and those that do will be integrated into the existing teams. A Mini Blitz will also be held with another Gaelic4Girls site after the 8 weeks and this is a major highlight of the programme. This is the first Gaelic4Girls programme to be held in the area and all girls from ballinrobe and the surrounding areas are encouraged to attend and learn the basic skills of Ladies Gaelic Football. This is a great way to make new friends and learn a new sport!  The cost for the entire programme is only €8. For more information contact Aidrienne Gleeson, Coordinator, 086 1260136.

Ladies U12/U13 Pella Week 5 Results

By Ann Cannon, PRO, Ladies Football   Well we’ve come to the end of our Girls U12/13 Pella League and what a fantastic five weeks we have had.  We’ve seen some great games and it has been a joy watching the skills levels of all of the girls getting stronger each week. Congratulations to Team D on placing top of the League Table and to all of the ladies who took part. Thank you to the Coaches and parents who were there each week.  We know it’s not easy to be out in the evenings with homework, dinners and study to be organised.  A special thank you to the girls who stepped in to play with teams A and F each week.  It’s a fast game and for some of you to play two games in one evening was great. This coming Wednesday brings us to the playoffs. A nice way to round off our League would be if all the parents could stay on this week to watch and cheer on their young ladies in the playoffs.  Your support is greatly appreciated. Please have the girls arrive 10 minutes before their playing time so they can be warmed up. Gumshields are mandatory and the players should bring a drink of water. Any questions call Declan on 087 2063863 or Mary on 087 2347438.

Ladies U12/U13 Pella Week 4 Results

By Ann Cannon, PRO, Ladies Football   Wow, another three great games with some girls scoring their first goals of the campaign. Remember even though it’s a league there is no harm in taking a shot and missing, it’s only by trying that you are going to improve. Be brave and don’t be afraid to have a go!! As we head into the final week we have a new joint leader at the top of the league, team D only ahead of team B on goal difference. A losing point for team A and wins for Teams E and C mean that things are very tight for third and fourth placed play-offs. Team F deserve a special mention for their effort on Wednesday evening, these girls have put in great work on all four games and this was their best display yet. Next week is going to be very important, with three teams who could be in the 1st / 2nd place play offs and three teams with a great chance of being in the 3rd/4th place play off. Your team needs you next week please make every effort to be there.   Please have the girls arrive 10 minutes before their playing time so they can be warmed up. Gumshields are mandatory and the players should bring a drink of water. Any questions call Declan on 087 2063863 or Mary on 087 2347438.

U10 Boys Pella Results Week 2

By Annette Conway, PRO Robe Rockets Friday night saw another four tight, competitive games and as predicted, the standard has risen noticeably as the players get familiar with the game. We were treated to many instances of individual brilliance but most noticeable was the improvement in team play, with players passing and moving in support of each other. They truly are a fantastic bunch of talented, intelligent players. Next week sees the final round-robin pool games and it is still possible for every team to win their respective pool – just two points separate first and fourth in Pool 1, and all four teams in Pool 2 are level on 4 points. Remember, final pool placings after next week’s games decide the pairings for the play-off games. The winners of the play-off games will go on to contest the Cup and the losers will contest the Shield. League update by Des May, U10 Coach
