Connacht win for Ballinrobe Community School

By Billy Horan, Club PRO Ballinrobe Community School withstood a spirited challenge from St Aloysius College, Athlone, to win the Connacht Colleges Junior B football championship final on a score line of 2-10 to 1-11 in at Mountbellew last week. An Oisin Hanlon goal helped to fashion a Ballinrobe interval lead of 1-6 to 0-5. Competitive exchanges marked the second-half and a Cathal Slattery goal was a crucial factor in gaining the title for Ballinrobe. Evan O’Brien, the captain, Cathal Slattery, who scored 1-2, Adam Barrett, Oran O’Malley, Tommy Conroy and Christopher Vahey were well to the fore for Ballinrobe. Defeat for seniors

By Billy Horan, Club PRO Wasteful use of scoring opportunities did not deter Shrule-Glencorrib from defeating Ballinrobe by 0-13 to 0-9 in the opening round of Group 1 of the O’Mara Cup at Flanagan Park, Ballinrobe, on Sunday. The sides were level 0-6 apiece at the interval and while Ballinrobe did forge ahead by two points after the restart, sustained Shrule-Glencorrib pressure in the final quarter yielded a productive outcome. Shane Mellett, Colin Hoverty, Eoin Ronaldson, Shane Hennelly, Adrian Moran, Darren McTigue and Conor O’Dowd impressed for Shrule-Glencorrib. Best for Ballinrobe were David Killeen, David Murphy, Conor Keane, Darren McDonnell and Kevin Quinn. Scorers: Shrule-Glencorrib – E Ronaldson 0-5, G Hennelly 0-4, C Hoverty 0-2, S Mellett and S Mullin 0-1 each. Ballinrobe – D McDonnell 0-6, K Quinn 0-2, D Killeen 0-1.

Minors win

By Billy Horan, Club PRO Unbeaten Ballinrobe defeated Bohola Moy Davitts by 5-15 to 1-5 in the fourth round of the Division 3 of the Mayo minor football league at Flanagan Park, Ballinrobe, last week. The rampant victors led by 3-11 to 0-1 at the interval. Scorers for Ballinrobe: Tom Quinn 2-4, Evan O’Brien 1-3, Dean Shaughnessy 1-1, Rory Jennings 1-0, Ryan Hobson and Oisin Hanlon 0-2 each, Peter Butler, John Enda Flannelly and Kieran Finnerty 0-1 each. Scorers for Bohola Moy Davitts: Lochlan Maloney 1-2, Davog Doherty 0-2, Cillian O’Brien 0-1.

U12: Grading League Group 3 Matches 3 and 4

By Ann Cannon, PRO, Ladies Football Our U12 ladies had a very busy week last week playing on in Ballinrobe on Wednesday and again on Friday in Kiltimagh. We had great numbers at both games.  Even though results are not going our way all our players continue to learn and improve with each game they play. Training is at the normal time this evening – Wednesday 20th April at 6-7 Match Friday in Ballinrobe Vs Hollymount at 6pm in Flanagan Park, meet at 5:40pm.  Please be on time. It is the policy of Ballinrobe GAA Club to have all children dropped off and picked up at the dressing rooms for both outdoor training and matches.  This is to ensure the safety of all our players. Children are not permitted to walk to car park on their own. As always, gumshields are mandatory.  Also, players cannot wear jewellery or hair slides. Good wishes to Garrett family and Breaffy GAA at this dreadful time

Note below is from Breaffy GAA club – all of us in Ballinrobe send good wishes to the Garrett family and the Breaffy club at this dreadful time: Breaffy GAA are hosting a community mass and get together this Sunday evening at 7pm in the clubhouse in aid of the Garrett family. Ben is a former member of Breaffy GAA. All support and donations to support the search effort would be greatly appreciated.
