By Declan O’ Loughlin, Chairperson, Ballinrobe Ladies: The Ballinrobe ladies took part in our first U12 blitz last Saturday in Claremorris. It was very late notice and thanks to the Mayo LGFA and our hosts Claremorris for the invitation. Thanks to the U10 girls who attended and enabled us to field a team. We had 12 players line out for the first game against Louisburgh and 13 for second game against Claremorris. Our girls did magnificently against physically much stronger opposition and as always out girls showed great determination and courage and never gave up. Our second half against Claremorris showed just what these girls are made of. It was great experience and players and coaches learn more each game we play. ( Photos Below)

By Aidrienne Gleeson, PRO, Ballinrobe Ladies: Our U10 Ladies played Claremorris on Friday evening last, October 2nd at Flanagan Park, Ballinrobe. We fielded two u10 teams and played two games of four by 10min quarters. Neither game disappointed. Both games showed our ladies have grown with both their skills and fitness through out the year. The fact that we had two separate U10 games on the night meant our ladies all got a good run on the pitch. Both teams proved they capabilities on the night and were fit for Claremorris. Our Ladies Night training with Cora Staunton written by Aidrienne Gleeson Our U8, U10 and U12 ladies had the honour of the presence of Cora Staunton on Wednesday 23rd September. Not only did Cora, “the Legend”, come join us, Cora actually took the Training session with the girls. The girls who turned out in force, 45 in all, thoroughly enjoyed the training session with Cora ( evidenced in photos attached). Cora managed the 45 for the hour and them before she left the pitch did some Autograph signing for the girls. We the coaches and girls thank Cora for attending and taking the training. We have already started following in her steps by attending Croke Park, Sunday 27th September, and we hope to continue following in her steps as our teams grow stronger. We look forward to Cora returning to our club for another session in very near future.

By Liam Horan, Webmaster Congratulations to Ballinrobe Community School on their victory over Ballyhaunis Community School in the Mayo First Year football championship last week. We are very proud of the fact that nine Ballinrobe club players featured on the squad, led by team captain Adam Flannery. The nine are Adam Flannery, Jason Butler, Conor O’Brien, Cian Sheridan, Eoin Gilrane, Dylan Sweeney, Jack Woods, David Opora and Johnny Heneghan. These players have come through our underage system in recent years, particularly the Academy, and it is very gratifying for the club to see them rise through the ranks. Additionally, they have had successes at U13 and U14 levels with the club recently. [Category News, Slider, Coaching, Bord na nOg]

Last night’s meeting of the club’s executive committee started with a minute’s silence for Martin Flannery, our former club chairman, who passed away last month. Martin was father of our current chairman Alan, and the family have a long tradition in the club.

Update: Great win for us today – final score 5-6 to 2-4. We trialled a new technology, Spreaker, to provide live commentary. We didn’t publicise it beforehand for fear it wouldn’t work: but the word spread and we reached 39 listeners. Best of all, the technology worked. You can listen back HERE – it’s broken into a few different files: Let’s try this: live commentary, starting at 12noon, go here – hopefully broadband will hold up: http://www.spreaker.com/user/ballinrobegaa – spread the word. We will be providing updates here from 12noon onwards. We play Shrule-Glencorrib in the Mayo senior football champion relegation play-off, in Hollymount, on Sunday at 12 noon. This is a winner-takes-all encounter: if we win, we play senior championship in 2016; if we lose, we play intermediate championship next year. All support appreciated. Referee Michael Daly, Ballyhaunis.
