Details of his backroom team will be finalised shortly. He is wished every success in the role. Ballinrobe have been drawn in the same group as Castlebar Mitchels, Ballina Stephenites and Crossmolina in the Mayo SFC. Pre-match interviews, Over 25s v Under 25s, followed by LIVE VIDEO STREAMING

Pre-match audio interviews HERE Excitement mounting. Video will be live HERE   Update, Christmas Morning, hope Santa was good: The Wrap Party + Video will be in Biggins’ Corner Bar at 4pm – this is likely to be an all-ticket affair, with significant black market activity, so be vigilant. Update, December 24, shortly before The Big Man goes on The Big Run (and we don’t mean Donie or Davy breaking upfield): This game is now changed to 12noon. It’s a Garda request apparently – they want to avoid the traffic chaos of previous years. The game will be live streamed with Cos Cam, as outlined below. Watch it HERE.  The video will be shown at 4pm in a secret location (a secret that will be prised from Declan Corcoran on this Holy Night, by one means or another…) Reminder of the traffic difficulties three years ago: Update, December 15: And this is not a joke. Micheál Keane has confirmed a) he won’t play – which is a big disappointment, b) he will shoot the video – which is a big boost, c) he will live stream the game on the day, and d) he will even have Cos Cam on match referee Padraic Costello Snr (who has also confirmed his availability today). It’s getting serious now. The video of the game will also be shown afterwards in a local hostelry.   The (almost) annual St Stephen’s Day Game will take place this year at 2pm in Flanagan Park. The Under 25s will play the Over 25s. Birth certs will be requested. Further details later but you can pencil in this for the day after The Big Day. Our new Players’ Rep James Quinn is actively canvassing participants, in case you want to avoid taking his call when you see his number coming up. And if you’re over 25, you should be very wary if you see David Killeen sidling up to you some night over the early festive period. Referee will hopefully be Padraic Costello Snr, and he might double as match analyst for the video.

Club will form guard of honour for removal of remains of the late Joe Kennedy

Mr Joe Kennedy, Rahard, Ballinrobe, who passed away last night (Thursday, December 17) was a keen follower of Gaelic games. His son Patrick played with the club for many years, and continues to be an extremely loyal and active member, most notably in a coaching capacity at various levels, including senior. Earlier this year, Patrick was one of the driving forces behind the team that captured the South Mayo U14 B title, a significant victory for club. He played on the club team that won the 1990 Mayo junior football championship. In his professional capacity, he coaches Gaelic football to boys and girls in the primary schools of this region. Joe followed the fortunes of Ballinrobe and Mayo closely, and was a well-known and popular figure in the locality. Funeral arrangements HERE. As a mark of respect, the club will form a guard of honour at the removal on Saturday evening. Members are asked to assemble at 6.20pm at O’Malley’s Funeral Home, wearing club gear. The club extends sympathy to the Kennedy family on their sad loss. May he rest in peace.

Listen back to commentary of SFC relegation play-off v @ShruleGlencorib @spreaker

Update: Great win for us today – final score 5-6 to 2-4. We trialled a new technology, Spreaker, to provide live commentary. We didn’t publicise it beforehand for fear it wouldn’t work: but the word spread and we reached 39 listeners. Best of all, the technology worked. You can listen back HERE – it’s broken into a few different files:   Let’s try this: live commentary, starting at 12noon, go here – hopefully broadband will hold up: http://www.spreaker.com/user/ballinrobegaa – spread the word. We will be providing updates here from 12noon onwards. We play Shrule-Glencorrib in the Mayo senior football champion relegation play-off, in Hollymount, on Sunday at 12 noon. This is a winner-takes-all encounter: if we win, we play senior championship in 2016; if we lose, we play intermediate championship next year. All support appreciated. Referee Michael Daly, Ballyhaunis.
