Some changes to Sunday’s Robe Rockets end-of-season celebration party

UPDATES, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 3: Some changes: Time is Sunday 4pm; venue is Ballinrobe Community School; Mayo minor ladies footballer Annie Duffy will also be a special guest along with Barry Moran; refreshments will be served for adults and children.      After a hectic first year, Robe Rockets will hold an end-of-season celebration party in the Valkenburg on Sunday, December 6, at 4.30pm – and Barry Moran, the Mayo and Castlebar Mitchels midfielder, will be the special guest. The formation of Robe Rockets was one of the recommendations flowing from Ballinrobe GAA club’s Coaching Plan (2015 to 2020) which was launched at the end of 2014. One year on, the Rockets are now an integral part of the club with huge numbers taking part in the twice-weekly coaching sessions at Flanagan Park. “It has been a hugely successful year for Robe Rockets. We’ve introduced new footballers to the club, visited other clubs, hosted matches, parties and other events, and, most of all, everybody involved has really enjoyed the excitement of it all,” said Rockets chairperson Declan O’Loughlin. A special guest – not Santa Claus, we understand – will attend the celebration on December 6. Each child will be presented with a certificate from their coach, along with a beanie hat bearing the Robe Rockets logo. “It is important to thank everybody who made the year such a success – players, parents, coaches and all others who helped out. Although we are now in our brief winter recess, the players are looking forward to getting back into action again next year,” added Declan. Martin O’Connor, the club’s coaching officer who is also a DJ, will provide the sounds at the celebration party. There is a dedicated Robe Rockets section on the Ballinrobe GAA club website, www.ballinrobegaaclub.com, and new members are always welcome. Registration for the 2016 season will take place in January.

Huge excitement as inaugural Pella League reaches final stage

By Des May The Cup final will be played against Team A and Team E. Team A have been imperious during the league taking maximum points but Team E ran them to a single goal on Friday to set up an intriguing final prospect. Team A are on top but Team E are surely a team on the rise and it would be brave to call the cup final either way at this point. Team B and Team C finished on level points during the league with Team B’s overall goal tally of 34 nudging them ahead of Team C’s tally of 33. In truth, the league has failed to separate these two teams so bragging rights are up for grabs in what should be a tight Shield Final. Team F came from behind to beat Team D and register their first win of the league. This was a great win for Team F and surely a big disappointment for Team D as it knocked them from the Shield Final. The silver lining for Team D in this is that they get another chance at Team F in the Plate Final where pride will be firmly on the line. All in all, three great finals in prospect. Please take note of the scheduled times for the finals on this page and come early and support the players in all the games. You can also go HERE to see the make-up of the teams and the format of the competition, which has been a huge success for the club.

Rising excitement in Pella League

By Des May One week remaining in the round robin matches to decide the pairings for the Cup, Shield and Plate Finals. Two placings have been decided but every team has much still to play for. Team A continue to top the table on maximum points and are guaranteed a place in the Cup Final. However, they can still be overtaken at the top of the table by second placed Team E, who they play next week. If Team E fail to win or draw that match then they too may be caught by Team B, currently lying in third but, who may just grab second place and snatch a place in the Cup Final with a win over Team C next week. If Team B lose next week they will miss out on the Cup Final and could possibly drop from the Shield Final to the Plate Final if Team D manage to beat Team F. If Team D lose next week and Team C draw or win then Team D will drop to the Plate Final and Team C will contest the Shield Final. Finally, Team F without a win yet, will definitely contest the Plate Final but, next week offers the last opportunity to convert their undoubted potential to league points and make a statement of intent for whoever they may meet in the Plate Final. All to play for…
