All club members, young and old, and GAA supporters are invited to the launch in St Joseph’s Primary School, Ballinrobe, at 8pm. “The young members can come out for the launch, see our plans for the future of their club, and still be at home for the Late Late Toy Show at 9.30,” noted club chairman Alan Flannery. Four sub-committees and a steering committee have been working on the preparation of this plan over the last few months. The plan will contain over 30 recommendations that the club aims to fulfil over the next five years. “In this plan, we hope to set about improving football in our club at all levels. There has been huge enthusiasm within the club and I know that club members will not be found wanting in terms of carrying out the wide-ranging actions now proposed”, added Alan. “We are particularly pleased that Fergal Costello will be launching the plan. Fergal was a great servant of Ballinrobe and Mayo GAA and is universally respected within GAA circles. He enjoyed great success with Ballinrobe at school and club level, and Mayo at inter-county level. Even though he now lives in Kildare, he retains a huge interest in the affairs of Ballinrobe GAA club. Light refreshments will be served at the launch. More on www.BallinrobeGAAClub.com.

U12 skills team do us proud

Our U12 skills team took part in the Connacht Skills Finals in the Connacht Centre of Excellence, Bekan, last night (Friday). They qualified as south Mayo champions, an achievement of which the club is rightly proud. They didn’t get into the prizes last night but performed extremely well. The team members were Darragh Sweeney, Adam Flannery, Conor O’Brien and Conor Cusack. Well done to all four, and to their coaches who continue to prioritise skill development among our young players.

Girls Football Celebration Day is a huge success

UPDATE, Sunday evening, September 28: We have more video footage that I had anticipated – the U8 certificate presentation ceremony is there too after all. I thought I had lost it, or not shot it properly in the first place, but it has been retrieved. Alas, some upside down selfies cast the video man into further controversy. Se below for link. Some items still syncing, so best to check later tonight or in the morning again.   We had a memorable hour or so in Flanagan Park yesterday morning (Saturday, September 28th, 2014) when we held our Girls Football Celebration Day. Brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, grandfathers and grandmothers turned out to see our young female footballers showcase their skills. Hard-working parents also put together a fantastic spread of food and refreshments for young and old. The Saturday morning training is now over for the girls for this year, but we will be back – bigger and better – next year. The improvement in skills levels shown by the girls throughout this year is quite astounding, and we look forward to promoting further improvements in the years ahead. Most of all, we aim to ensure they derive enjoyment from their involvement in football because, human nature being what it is, if it’s not fun, they will drift away. Each girl received a Certificate of Excellence (replete with some skills drills to work on over the winter months). Great credit is due to the hard-working team who have revived girls football in the club this year. Pictures from yesterday are available HERE. Pix will be syncing there throughout today (Sunday) so might be an idea to check in later too (it could be evening time in fact before all are up there). The video man apologises for not capturing the presentations to the younger girls. It’s what you get when you put amateurs on the job… These are the highest resolution we have available, so feel free to download from there if you wish to print. Anyone else who has photos for inclusion should email them to liamhoran09@gmail.com.

Celebration Day for our girls footballers

This year, Ballinrobe GAA club has created a girls football wing for the first time in a number of years – and this Saturday (September 27th) we will celebrate it with a special family-oriented get-together in Flanagan Park. Celebration Day will start at 9.30am, and all family members are invited along to mark a busy year of Saturday morning training for the girls. There will be a number of novelty events, and refreshments, so make sure to bring along the cameras to capture the special moments. The girls will showcase the football skills they have learned throughout the year. The club is looking into the possibility of putting a team into competitions in the coming year. For now, though, the emphasis this Saturday is on fun: be there at 9.30am to join in. Parents wishing to help out are also asked to come along, and it is hoped that club members of all ages will come along to celebrate with the girls.

Conor Cusack, Conor O’Brien, Darragh Sweeney, and Adam Flannery – these four players last night (Friday) won the South Mayo U12 Skills Challenge for the club. It was held at the Connacht Centre of Excellence in Bekan. Well done too to coaches Kevin Gilrane, Michael Jennings, Adrian Flannery and Alan Flannery. To select this team, the club held local trials, where the standard was exceptionally high. We are on the right road. Connacht final takes place in a fortnight.
