Great week (and season) continues for school with Connacht juvenile victory

By Liam Horan, Webmaster A great week (and season) for Ballinrobe Community School continued yesterday when the school’s rising stars won the Connacht Juvenile B championship. They defeated ‘The Bish’ (St Joseph’s, Galway) by 3-14 to 3-7 in a thrilling final at Headford. We are particularly proud of the Ballinrobe players in the squad, but, equally, we know the unique atmosphere that permeates a successful school team when players from a variety of clubs pool together. Well done to team manager Martin Gavin, a member of the Mountbellew-Moylough club in Galway, who guided the team to victory.  We are lucky locally to have enjoyed many great Ballinrobe Community School successes down the years, and it is clear that we are now in a very promising era. This triumph is also a vindication of all the great work being done in local clubs, not least in our own club where many of these players cut their teeth in our Skills Academy (now known as the Robe Rockets) and at Bord na nOg level. Thanks to Alan Flannery for providing this picture after the great deed was done.

Tog one, tog all: St Stephen’s Day games will warm, or thin, the blood

Players from aged 10 to God knows what will take part in our St Stephen’s Day games this year. At 11.30am, our rising U12 and U14 stars will take to the field. Try to get up to Flanagan Park early to see them display their considerable talents. And at 12.30pm, old-timers (i.e. anyone over 21) will take on our current U21 team, the Mayo C champions who, rumour has it, have been bigging it up around town since their county final victory. Kevin Quinn has been sponsored new wheels. Ronan O’Reilly has been to Roundy to get “The ROR Roar” cut into his left temple. Another un-named player has got 9 new tats to mark the county final victory. Time to bring them down to size? Can you afford to miss this? See you there. It might even be streamed on Club Radio: http://ballinrobegaaclub.com/category/audios/ Who’s reffing it? Will we even need a ref?

Evan and Oran named on Mayo minor squad for 2017

After the recent series of County Cup games, two Ballinrobe players – Evan O’Brien and Oran O’Malley – have been named in the Mayo minor squad for 2017. Evan and Oran both shone in the County Cup games that culminated in south Mayo losing narrowly to East Mayo in the final – 1-9 to 0-11 – at Mulvey Park, Castlebar. However, despite the disappointment of the defeat, there was good news for Oran and Evan, two of our most promising and committed young players, when they were included in the squad. We wish them the very best of luck and know they will represent our club with distinction. Both figured prominently in our recent Mayo U21 C championship final victory over Kilmeena. You can relive that game, including full commentary, after-match interviews and photos http://ballinrobegaaclub.com/u21final/

€50 reward for our club – AIB/GAA Home Insurance Offer

From AIB, who are main GAA sponsors nationally. AIB/GAA Home Insurance Offer We want to take this opportunity to explain how customers nominate their Club for the €50 reward. How customers nominate their GAA club for €50 Reward After purchasing their new policy, the customer must complete the ‘Reward my Club’ form online atwww.aib.ie/gaainsurance. On the form the customer nominates their GAA club They will also need to submit their policy number Payments to clubs will be made after the policy has been in place for 3 months and payments will begin in March 2017. Customers should nominate their club as soon as possible after purchase, as despite best intentions the longer people wait to nominate their club the less likely they will be to actually do it. As soon as customers have their policy number they can complete the form – you don’t need to wait until the Policy has been in place 3 months. Ladies GAA Clubs/ Ladies Camogie Clubs There have also been some queries with regard to Ladies GAA Football clubs and Ladies Camogie clubs and whether we can extend our GAA Club Home insurance offer to include them.  Unfortunately we do not have a formal partnership with the LGFA and as a result we cannot include ladies football clubs into this offer

The game is being played at home in Flanagan Park and Mark Tuffy is the referee. What better way to start the weekend than supporting one of underage teams in a final. The club is urging members to come along and support tomorrow evening, and also spread the word around town. It is not often we contest finals at this level on our own pitch, so it is important to show our support when it happens. Good luck to all involved tomorrow evening and we look forward to seeing a big turnout in support Donal McCormack, Runai
