TWO late first half goals fashioned this home victory at Flanagan Park for Ballinrobe in the Mayo U-21 ‘C’ football championship last week.
Although Martin Burke opened the scoring with a Ballinrobe point, Kilmovee Shamrocks had forged ahead by 0-3 to 0-1 by the tenth minute.
Dean Gibbons, a brace, and Christopher Flatley registered the scores, but the locals got back on level terms, through points from Martin Burke, a free, and David O’Connor.
An excellent point from James Moran restored the advantage for Kilmovee, and with the interval looming, Ballinrobe had got their heads in front again, 0-6 to 0-5.
That minimum lead was augmented by a brace of goals executed by David O’Connor and Martin Burke.
A Kilmovee point by Michael Caulfield marked the renewal of the action, but Felim Reilly and Martin Burke countered with Ballinrobe points.
The impressive Cormac Rushe got the anticipated Kilmovee goal from a penalty, to reduce the homeside’s lead to five points, 2-9 to 1-7.
Ballinrobe, however, sustained further pressure and had six points to spare at the finish.
Martin Burke, scorer-in-chief, David O’Connor, Martin Farragher, James Quinn, Eugene O’Malley and Brendan Murphy impressed for Ballinrobe whose Felin Reilly was sent off near the end in receipt of a second yellow card.
Cormac Rushe, Dean Gibbons, James Moran, goalkeeper Brent Barry, who made a number of fine saves, Christopher Flatley and Daniel Regan were prominent for Kilmovee.
