Our man pipped at the post
Ballinrobe GAA club would like to sincerely thank everybody who helped make Adrian Flannery’s recent Mayoral campaign such a resounding success.
Our candidate finished as runner-up to Ballinrobe RFC’s Peter McHugh after a titanic battle which saw Adrian raise approximately €30,000 for Ballinrobe GAA club.
He was beaten by just €217 by the Rugby Club’s very popular winner after the novel fund-raising campaign raised over €70,000 in total for three local sports clubs.
The two front-runners and their campaign teams raised €60,000 between them for their respective clubs through a variety of different fund-raising initiatives.
Paddy McTigue, representing Ballinrobe Town FC, finished in third place.
Adrian Flannery paid tribute to his campaign team which included Liam Horan, Alan Flannery, Vinny Cummins and Declan Corcoran, while people like Tom Carney, Gerry O’Malley, Johnny Flannery and the Macken and Killeen families were also singled out for special mention.
“It was a great experience and I’m delighted that we raised so much money for the GAA club,” said Adrian.
“I would like to thank everybody who sold and bought tickets, helped donate and collect scrap, and did anything to help us over the last five months.
“This money will allow us to develop our facilities and our club in the months and years to come, and shows just what is possible when people work together.”
“I can’t believe it,” said Peter McHugh shortly after the final figures had been tallied in the Valkenburg Hotel.
“I’m honoured to be the new Mayor of Ballinrobe and anything I can do to improve things for the town in this role, I will do.”
Peter’s success was greeted with great gusto by his huge Ballinrobe RFC support base.
