U21 success

By Billy Horan, Club PRO An improved Ballinrobe performance fashioned a 3-12 to 2-11 victory over Ballintubber in the second round of the Mayo U21 B football championship, at Flanagan Park, Ballinrobe, on Sunday morning. Wasteful Ballintubber made poor use of scoring opportunities in the first half and a late surge, highlighted by goals from Peter Butler and Joe Burke, left the locals clear by 3-7 to 1-4. Ballinrobe’s defensive mettle was strenuously challenged in the second half, and though the margin was reduced, mainly through the exploits of Hugh Geraghty, James Finnerty, Ciaran Gavin and Darragh McGovern, Ballinrobe still had their heads in front at the finish. Ballinrobe: Evan O’Brien 0-6, Joseph Burke 1-2, Peter Butler 1-1, Peter Walsh 1-0, Kevin Quinn 0-2, John Enda Flannelly 0-1. Ballintubber: Hugh Geraghty 2-1, Louis Hoban, James Finnerty, Ciaran Gavin 0-2 each, Darragh McGovern, John Kerrigan, Keelan McDonnell and Paddy Burke 0-1 each.

U10 Ladies Pella Finals

There were two very exciting games last night, we had some contentious refereeing decisions but thankfully no crowd trouble. We had a great turnout to see these young ladies put on a great exhibition of football. Well done to the two winners, commiserations to the losing teams they were two very close games. More importantly it was great to see how much these players have improved since the start of the year, a big thank you to their coaches for all their hard work. Thanks to Lakeside for hosting us again, we are very lucky to have this facility in town. Thanks also to Cummins & Sons Homevalue Ballinrobe for their sponsorship of the medals and cups.  The girls were given a sponsorship card for a chance to win a Christmas Dinner (Red & White Wine, Turkey, Ham and dessert). These need to be returned to Mary Langan or Noreen Jennings by Saturday 9th December.

U15s County Semi-final match report

Sunday 22nd October U15 Div 2 Semifinal Result: Kilmeena 4-06 Ballinrobe 3-08. Commiserations to our U15s and their coaches who lost out narrowly by one point in a very exciting game. Our lads played some great football in terrible conditions, but alas it wasn’t to be. These players did the club proud and while the defeat was difficult, we will no doubt see these players going on to win other titles for the club. #BallinrobeAbú Thanks to Kilmeena for making the photos of the match available. Pictures can viewed here.

Ladies Gaelic football rules apply for pick-up, hand-pass, movement with the ball, etc. A player is allowed two solos or a solo and a hop before they must pass or shoot. A player must be in the opposition’s half to score. The ball may hit the side wall without penalty. If an attacking player hits the ball against the end wall, the defending team gains possession and re-starts the game from under their goal. Before the re-start no attacking player is allowed inside the blue semi-circle zone. If a defending player hits the ball off the end wall, the attacking team gains possession at centre court. Teams must have at least one player in each half of the court at all times. If a team fails to do so, the opposing team is awarded a free from the opposition’s blue semi-circle. When a free is called the defending player must step back 5 paces from the free taker. A defender may block a player or attempt to strike the ball from her hands but no tackling allowed – i.e. no grabbing, pushing or striking an opposing player to any degree.
