By Irene Langan, Club Secretary Our senior team will be the invited guests at this evening’s race meeting, the first of a two-day race meeting here in Ballinrobe. Weather is looking good for what promises to be a great two days. We hope that all the locals turn out to support our senior team sponsors. Hopefully a few nice wins will be had locally too.   Congrats to Stephen Rochford and Donie Vaughan on Saturday’s win in Limerick and best of luck in Croke Park on Sunday next. We will all be behind ye cheering ye on. . We had three lucky winners in the Mayo club draws so far. Martin O’Connor won €500, Alan Flannery won €200 and Niamh and Ben Williams won €200. This is a great start to the draws and hopefully, we will have a few more winners in the next draws. . Super Valu are holding their Back the Ball promotion and anyone who spends €20 or more in store gets a voucher to place in the club box of your choice. We ask you all to support our club by getting as many vouchers as possible in our box as the more vouchers, the more footballs our club receives for our underage players.   Ireland’s Leading Retailer Will Donate 55,000 Footballs To GAA Clubs Across The Country

Ballinrobe u14 Ladies Championship Campaign Continues

Our u14 ladies are playing their second round of championship this Monday at 7:30 in the Lough. After a thrilling game on Monday where Ballinrobe finished as victors on a score line of 4-10 to 5-6, the girls are now focusing on their game against Tourmakedy. Coming from 8 points behind at the break, our girls rattled the opposition, scoring 3 goals without reply. Our defence stood strong and solid as we coasted with points from both our full and half forward lines. Both midfielders and half backs had put in serious mileage with our full backs and superstar goalie holding down the fort as we drove forward. Our fresh legged subs were crucial and were involved in every play as soon as they arrived on the pitch. Everything was looking as nicely wrapped as the silage this year, until Kilmoremoy gave one last push that ended up in the back of the net. The ref blew it up and on the hottest day of the year, we were into extra time. Closer to a game at Wimbledon than the one of Croke Park standard that we had witnessed in normal time, the ball was back and over between both sides, point for point. After the longest six minutes of these girls’ lives, Ballinrobe finished ahead by the smallest of margins. For the first time in decades, Ballinrobe have an u14 competing in championship, and by God are they ready for it.

The late Madeline Malone

We extend our sympathy to the Malone family, and the extended family circle, on the sudden death of Madeline Malone, The Neale Road, Ballinrobe. Madeline was a lifelong supporter of the GAA, and is predeceased by her husband, a stalwart of our club for many years. You can read the club tribute to Pat Malone HERE Like Pat, Madeline had a particular love of the game of hurling, and the Malone family were central figures in the promotion of the sport in Ballinrobe in the 1970s and 1980s. The family also contributed handsomely to our football teams over many years, and members of the third generation of the family now play for Ballinrobe. Madeline was a loyal supporter of Ballinrobe teams in both codes. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace. Funeral details are available HERE
