Ballinrobe Under 10’s travelled to Tourmakeady last Sunday to take part in the annual Padraic Mulroe Memorial Cup competition. Two fine performances saw the boys reach the final but unfortunately they lost out to Kilmeena in the final. Well done to all our players, who are on well-earned rest for the next two weeks.

We are honoured to field our senior team in this tournament this Saturday, starting at 3pm: From The Neale GAA: The Neale GAA Club with the family of Darragh Walsh are hosting a ‘Friends of Darragh’ 7’s Tournament on Saturday August 1st. This will comprise eight local teams (The Neale, Ballinrobe, Kllmaine, Caherlistrane, Headford, Clonbur and Shrule/Glencorrib) and a team from Qatar competing against each other. In conjunction with this there will be a Family fun day. For the U12 to U16 there will various competitions like penalty shootout, crossbar challenge and get the ball in the hole. The U8 and U10 will perform an exhibition game at half time of the plate and cup finals. T-Shirts will be on sale and funds will be going towards the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. Refreshments will be available on the day. All are welcome.

Christy O’Loughlin, who passed away in 2012, was a valued member of Ballinrobe GAA Club – and this Saturday the Christy O’Loughlin Memorial Cup will be inaugurated. The club’s tribute to Christy can be viewed HERE. Four U12 teams will compete for the Christy O’Loughlin Cup, and the two semi-finals will take place as follows: Semi-finals: 3pm – Ballinrobe v Ballintubber 3.45pm – Parke v Corofin The semi-finals will be followed by a B final (4.30pm) and A final (5.15pm). This event forms part of the Queen of the Lakes festival which kicks off in Ballinrobe this weekend. The Andy Merrigan Cup, captured in thrilling fashion by Corofin in Croke Parrk on St Patrick’s Day, will be on display. “Members of the O’Loughlin family will be present on the day. It promises to be a great family occasion and we expect a large turn-out. Bring your cameras to capture those memories,” said organiser Declan Corcoran.

Michael Conway, Patrick Burke, Aaron Lally, Darragh McGuinness, Stephen O’Malley and Jamie Finnerty tried hardest for Ballintubber.

By Billy Horan, Club PRO Ballinrobe were emphatic victors in the second round of the JJ Burke Renault U16 D Football Championship, Section 2, last week, defeating a visiting Erris St Patrick’s by 8.25 to 1.5. Early goals by Liam Burke and Dylan Jennings foreshadowed what was to ensue and the locals were comfortably positioned at the interval on a score line of 5.11 to 0.2. The visitors tried their utmost to put a better face on things after the resumption of the action but to no avail as Ballinrobe extended their advantage. Evan O’Brien, Evan Gannon, Liam Burke, Padraig Óg Horan, Oran O’Malley and Oisin Hanlon impressed for Ballinrobe. Mickey Conroy, Finian Carolan the scorer of the goal, Alan Barrett, Ciaran Doherty, Conor Kilker and Stephen Grealis, the goalkeeper, were prominent for the losers. Scorers for Ballinrobe: Liam Burke 3.6, Oisin Hanlon 2.3, Evan O’Brien 0.8, Ross Philbin 1.1, D Jennings and M Burke a goal each, K Tierney 0.3, R Jennings 0.2, P Óg Horan and E Langan 0.1. Everyone within Ballinrobe GAA Club sends on their best wishes to our own Donal Vaughan, whom collected his 5th Connacht Medal after yesterdays comprehensive victory over Sligo. Donal capped a fine running display to finish the day with 2 points.
