Croker trip was a big success

Last night’s meeting of Ballinrobe GAA club Executive Committee heard that the recent trip to Croke Park by our U14 team was a success. The team attended the All-Ireland quarter-final triple-header, and they had the joy of first seeing Mayo defeat Armagh in the minor clash, followed by the seniors victory over Cork. Club chairman Alan Flannery thanked Tom Carney and John Burke for organising the trip. In return, Tom thanked the club for the donation towards the costs.

Pix from girls debut day versus @shruleglencorib

UPDATE, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14th: Pictures now starting to come in, thanks to Mary Langan, Aidrienne Gleeson, Katherine O’Loughlin, Emma Jennings and others. You can view them HERE. In the main, these are high-res pix so you can download and print from there if you wish. Our U8 and U10 girls played their first game in the club colours tonight versus Shrule-Glencorrib, in Glencorrib. I wasn’t there but early dispatches indicate it was, to quote Declan O’Loughlin, ‘a great night’s entertainment.’ A special word of thanks to Shrule-Glencorrib for hosting the game – the first of many, we hope. More anon. We previewed this game HERE Academy resumes this Saturday morning for boys and girls at 9.30am. PS: For those who are wondering if we left out an ‘r’ in our opponent’s name above, that’s how they spell their Twitter handle.

Today is Debut Day for our U8 and U10 girls footballers

On Wednesday evening next, August 13th, we have two girls-only games at U8 and U10 levels, versus Shrule-Glencorrib, in Glencorrib at 7pm (note time is changed from 6pm). Meet in Glencorrib pitch at 6.45pm. If you have transport issues, contact Declan O’Loughlin on 087 206 3863. If you haven’t received a text about this match, and feel you should, can you email your name, the child’s name and date of birth, and your own mobile number to secretary.ballinrobe.mayo@gaa.ie This game is being played under the auspices of our club, rather than ladies football, as neither club is affiliated to the ladies football organisation. However, our aspiration is to become a fully-fledged ladies club next year. Please make a special effort to be there as it will be the first time we field girls-only teams for perhaps ten years. Special thanks to Mary Langan for organising the game. It’s a Debut Day for a lot of young players in our club so it’s important to make it memorable for them: we are making a big effort to get parents/guardians along. Bring your cameras. We will be contacting parents/guardians with final arrangements in next couple of days. Here’s how we have done Debut Days in the past. And video of our Saturday morning Academy here:

Signs ready – good luck to Donie, Kenneth and all who wear the green and red

The sap is rising – we are looking forward to getting these ‘good luck’ signs up around the town in the next few days. We wish Donie Vaughan, Kenneth O’Malley and their senior colleagues every success in the coming weeks. The good wishes extend to our minors too – hopefully they can reach another All-Ireland final, at the very least. Up Mayo!
