Boys and girls – the Academy is back tomorrow

Our Academy for boys and girls resumes after the summer sojourn tomorrow morning (Saturday, August 16th) at 9.30 in Flanagan Park. Early to bed tonight – and that’s just the coaches. All children up to the age of 12 are welcome to attend. It’s a nice social morning up there too with a large number of parents/guardians opting to help out with the event. So, parents/guardians, feel free to wait for the hour – we will give you something to do and you will hopefully find it a fun way to pass a morning.

Pix from girls debut day versus @shruleglencorib

UPDATE, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14th: Pictures now starting to come in, thanks to Mary Langan, Aidrienne Gleeson, Katherine O’Loughlin, Emma Jennings and others. You can view them HERE. In the main, these are high-res pix so you can download and print from there if you wish. Our U8 and U10 girls played their first game in the club colours tonight versus Shrule-Glencorrib, in Glencorrib. I wasn’t there but early dispatches indicate it was, to quote Declan O’Loughlin, ‘a great night’s entertainment.’ A special word of thanks to Shrule-Glencorrib for hosting the game – the first of many, we hope. More anon. We previewed this game HERE Academy resumes this Saturday morning for boys and girls at 9.30am. PS: For those who are wondering if we left out an ‘r’ in our opponent’s name above, that’s how they spell their Twitter handle.

Today is Debut Day for our U8 and U10 girls footballers

On Wednesday evening next, August 13th, we have two girls-only games at U8 and U10 levels, versus Shrule-Glencorrib, in Glencorrib at 7pm (note time is changed from 6pm). Meet in Glencorrib pitch at 6.45pm. If you have transport issues, contact Declan O’Loughlin on 087 206 3863. If you haven’t received a text about this match, and feel you should, can you email your name, the child’s name and date of birth, and your own mobile number to secretary.ballinrobe.mayo@gaa.ie This game is being played under the auspices of our club, rather than ladies football, as neither club is affiliated to the ladies football organisation. However, our aspiration is to become a fully-fledged ladies club next year. Please make a special effort to be there as it will be the first time we field girls-only teams for perhaps ten years. Special thanks to Mary Langan for organising the game. It’s a Debut Day for a lot of young players in our club so it’s important to make it memorable for them: we are making a big effort to get parents/guardians along. Bring your cameras. We will be contacting parents/guardians with final arrangements in next couple of days. Here’s how we have done Debut Days in the past. And video of our Saturday morning Academy here:

We wish Donie Vaughan, Kenneth O’Malley and their senior colleagues every success in the coming weeks. Cloonacastle Estate, which dates back to 1238, became the new home for Ballinrobe Golf Club during its centenary year in 1995. A mature 300 acre estate provides the setting for an ever evolving, continuously maturing, magnificent championship parkland golf course. A 250 year old Estate House and some of its original farm buildings have been carefully and tastefully renovated to provide modern clubhouse facilities. In the words of Padraig Harrington: "This must be the finest championship course in the West of Ireland, The par threes, in particular, are a delight. My favourite hole is the fifth which has a marvellous green inset into the River Robe. The tenth hole is a hole which the professionals will love, with its island green needing a very precise choice of club."
