A late goal by full-forward Cian O’Connell fashioned a hard-earned Ballinrobe success by 4-5 to 3-7 over Bonniconlon in the third round of Division Two of the Mayo U14 football league at Flanagan Park, Ballinrobe, on Thursday evening.
It was Ballinrobe’s first victory in the league and goals by Ewan Duffy and Cian O’Connell (2) left Bonniconlon trailing by 3-3 to 0-5 at the interval. The north Mayo representatives exerted considerable pressure in the second-half and managed to edge ahead by two points before Cian O’Connell restored the advantage for Ballinrobe.
Ballinrobe’s leading performers were top scorer Cian O’Connell, with an impressive tally of 3-4, Eoin Gilrane, Dara Jason Butler, Ewan Duffy and Luke Jennings, the goalkeeper. James Kelly, Cristian Judge, John Lawrence, Mark Conlon and Enda Conlon figured prominently for Bonniconlon.
